This is certain to be a post that will rub some of you the wrong way. I apologize in advance, and can only say that this is an important topic. Whether or not people like to hear about it, or if it is considered politically correct to address it...

They say broken hearts are made of stone, and there may be something to this old adage.  I want to delve into this a bit, but I also want to engage with whoever might want to discuss heartbreak and how we grow numb to it over time.

Mastery

Like most of you, I am interested in... obsessed, perhaps, by the concept of mastery. There is truly nothing more breathtaking or inspiring than to witness a true master at work.  It matters not what their art may be, their utter genius makes a fan even of people who would normally be averse to the form.

East Meets West

As a natural sucker for mash-ups, hybrids, cross-pollination and the like, it should come as no surprise that I have been a lifelong fan of music that spans genres and mixes elements of things that have traditionally been rather isolated.  Truthfully, all of the major advances in music have come out of such melting-pot sensibilities. Nearly all of modern music can be traced back to Congo Square in New Orleans where African slaves met European instruments and gave birth to jazz, blues, soul and all that descended from that heady mix.

Controlled Folly
